Residing in Charlotte, Sharon Dowell is the Gallery Coordinator at Central Piedmont Community College, Adjunct Professor at UNC Charlotte and a Painter. Sharon received her BFA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and has work in major collections such as the BLT Steakhouse (Ritz Carlton-Charlotte), Duke Energy, The Renaissance Hotel-DC, Fidelity Investments, and The Federal Reserve Bank. A two time Arts and Science Council grant recipient, she recently completed a public mural for the city of Charlotte and is currently working on a Charlotte CATS Transit light rail art commission and a Bull City Connector bus transit commission in Durham. Residencies include The McColl Center for Visual Art, NES in Iceland, and Ireland’s Tyrone Guthrie Center. She was awarded Best Artist 2012 in Charlotte Magazine.
Dowell enjoys working with the community, recently collaborating on art projects with the YMCA, Freedom Partners, and The Bechtler Museum of Art. She is on the Yard Art Day project team and Quasimodo Project for the DNC Convention. She serves on the Exhibition Committee for the McColl Center for Visual Art and has served on the grants panel for the Arts and Science Council. Sharon regularly participates in art auctions to help raise funds for The Shelter for Battered Women (Art with Heart), The Levine Museum of the New South, Planned Parenthood, The Human Rights Campaign, and the Metrolina Aids Project.
