Christy Lee Rogers is a self-taught photographer whose obsession is water, for its innovative potential as a material in photography. Inspired by Baroque paintings and their chiaroscuro qualities of light, her subjects bend and distort, bathing in darkness or isolated by light.
Rogers experiments with spatial relationships, incorporating techniques which over time have developed into austere, distinctive portraits. With light refraction as the technical foundation for her work, she utilizes this phenomenon of light as it passes from the air into water, with its higher optical density, to capture in-camera images, without the modern post-production manipulations. The result is rich and seductive, with opulent colors and watery undulations. In the tradition of museum-quality fine art, her unique process is produced in very limited editions as archival pigment prints on canvas.
Her work has been exhibited across the US and Europe, and collected worldwide. She has been featured in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar Art China, Eyemazing, Monaco Matin, Photo Technique.
Rogers divides her time between Los Angeles, California and Kailua, Hawaii.
