About Jovan

Jovan Karlo Villalba studied at The Cooper Union in New York between 1995-1999. Earlier, he studied at New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida.

His work is inspired by the possibilities of the imagination. Using various marks, blends, and bleeds, and by juxtaposing the familiar and the unfamiliar, he aims to subverts realism and stimulate both contemplation and escapism in the viewer.

Each painting is conceived of as a puzzle piece, providing another glimpse of a world that is inviting and free to inhabit. While commenting on social and environmental issues, these paintings also reflect his own personal experience.

His work has been exhibited across the United States and he was won numerous honors, including My Art Space NY short list in 2007 and Art Dept Internatioal Modern Art short list in 2003.

Jovan's art is a delicate mixture of images of our daily life with our fantasies and dreams that quite often become reality. Very powerful art that impact our sensitivy as well as makes us to think about Life and its meaning.

I have seen Jovan's work evolve and grow over the years, this is truly his best yet! So complex and dimensional, I can stare at these for days.

Incredible work, it is like a carefully crafted wonderland in chaos.

As always Jovan's work is full of emotions. Explosions of color and depth. I've loved his work since I first saw it in New York!

I'm a big fan of Jovan's and I own one of his earliest paintings -- which I not only love but get more compliments on than anything else I own. Jovan's work is ever-evolving...check back in with him in a few years and you'll see a wonderful evolution. If I were king of the world, Jovan would be my royal painter and I'd keep him in a studio all day painting purely for my enjoyment.

I like this guy. As I read about Jovan I'm thinking the first one hit the nail on the head. It sure appeals to me, I'd love to have that in my living room.

I feel like, at first glance there is a struggle of people after some kind of disaster. When I looked at it closer it was the disaster its self.
