About David

David Baker describes his paintings as being, in the simplest sense, a mix of realist scenes: interior, landscape, still life and portrait. ‘They are my attempts at understanding the links between my sense of visual harmony and my emotional response to a scene,’ he says.

As such, the paintings have become vehicles for examining and preserving the moments wherein visual and emotional elements come together to create a poignant dialogue. ‘I look for paintings in the residue of time passing and falling quietly around, in silvery scenes containing the stillness following an event.’

Searching for an evocative landscape and carefully posing objects in a still life are processes which both form and his aesthetic. In the process of creating the illusion of space, he pursues those moments when aesthetic sense and reality converge.

not only does he depict the nature of his subject perfectly through composition and color schemes, but he captures the nostalgic effects of family and simpler times. you can feel these paintings.

'late october'
this is touching,,i like this one,,sweet & young, mother is busy handling her child,, just like fresh stage of a mother,, dedicated and loving.. a lil visible smile on the mothers face wud have brighten the image except the hands above her head tying her hair back.. making her look busy and irritated by motherhood..
a lil smile wud have changed it to something else... :)

'R.T.s Paper Crown' -
scene and the moment of time is making me sad rather than calm and attracting towards the beauty of a mothers feeling for her children ... she seems so comfortably sleeping with her so young childrens playing around, one on the bed corner and other infant down on the floor,,and the vague image on the wall seems to me like those childrens are 'lost' ,, left behind by their parents... helpless...
I dunno,, just wat i m feeling looking at it,, i have not written this to go against others feeling or emotion towards it...

I love how these pictures aren't depicting a perfectly tidy space with a perfectly tidy mama. Real life. It's refreshing and comforting at the same time.

All the above and then some. The backgrond brings new meaning to the word background.

Bravo
