Kalliope Amorphous is a self-taught photographer. Her images are composed intuitively and she improvises her own lighting, costume, and makeup.
The ideas she explores in her work include alienation, time, memory, and transcendence, says Amorphous, and her choice on self-portraiture is not so much a product of narcissism as of her reclusive personality. ‘For me, photography is visual poetry.’ In other words, a solitary pursuit.
In 2010 Amorphous received a Julia Margaret Cameron award for self-portraiture. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally.
