Don Scott Macdonald’s paintings are composed of a combination of both observations and dreams. Rather than recreating details of a static landscape on canvas, he attempts to distill its essence, believing that simplicity is elegant and powerful.
Many in this series juxtapose the quiet stillness of the open landscape with movement and the rush of sensation. There is also the exploration between the ethereal and the earth. The aim is to create spaciousness that extends beyond the limits of the canvas. Overall, Macdonald hopes the paintings convey something about who we are and what we feel ” a balance of mystery and beauty, darkness and hope.
