Kristine Poole was born in Novi, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Michigan University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a concentration in ceramic sculpture. After apprenticing with both master potter John Glick and master glass blower Steven Hourigan, she moved to Santa Fe, NM to work for Shidoni bronze casting foundry. Later she established and operated her own dance studio as well as founding “Body Flight,” a professional dance company. Coming full circle, she applied her refined knowledge of movement, line and anatomy to her life sized fired clay figurative work.
Kristine explains her work by saying, “In my sculpture, I find a voice that expresses ideas more powerfully and beautifully than I could do through any other means. Bringing the pictures from my mind into the tangible inspires and fulfills me and is a way I can understand and share my self. Concept and content are essential in my work. Classically inspired with contemporary overtones, my sculptures bring into consideration diverse topics including sociocultural experience and commentary, the artist’s muse and the source of inspiration as well as reflections on my personal life odyssey. These ideas are developed intuitively on the timeless fundamentals of anatomy and attention to detail, blending the challenges of rendering the beauty of the human form with my inherent curiosity and questions about everything.”
