Alexander Key is an emerging contemporary artist from the Charlotte area. His work appropriates a wide variety of cultural ephemera, extracting familiar aesthetics and re-contextualizing them into new compositions that act as bittersweet commentaries. Mining from the resonance of childhood images and personal nostalgia, he explores the impact of these mental keepsakes on a broader collective memory. His work poses the question of what constitutes a shared experience and why? Working primarily in the medium of silkscreen printing, his work ranges from monotone prints to densely layered paintings.
