Janna Watson is a Toronto based artist who earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Ontario’s College of Art and Design. She has become well-known for her compelling abstract compositions, which use color, line, and energetic brushstrokes to evoke emotion in the viewer. Watson views her work as a visual expression of emotion, externalized through paint. The work possesses an elegant and peaceful energy, created with a carefully balanced pairing of loose painting and gestural mark-making.
Janna describes the work by saying, “Using a hybridizing and synthetic set of tactics, my work is intended to (con) fuse categories of painterly and graphic, landscape and body, 2D and 3D, to blend tension and coherence as one.”
