Through working with Porcelain in an unconventional manner, I have been able to transform the material into the unknown yet familiar. Beginning with certain fundamental basic shapes, introducing texture, embedding pigment into the surface, or ordering and stacking the elements to their finished orientation, the viewer is left to discover. Like a child’s building blocks, a spinal chord, stones on a beach, or common bricks, each is about separate elements set together to form a cohesive whole. This plays strongly in my work.
Two main areas of inspiration for my work are the natural world and the dynamic relationship between the organic and the industrial. These inspirations partnered with intrigue, curiosity, wonder, play, and discovery creates the magic for me.
