About Michael

Michael Carini received his artistic training in Los Angeles, studying at Loyola Marymount University while simultaneously serving as an apprentice under respected artists Jane Brucker and Roland Reiss. Graduating at the top of his class in 2006 with honors including the Scholar of Distinction Award in Painting, Carini returned to his hometown in San Diego, where he currently maintains his studio. Exhibited and published both in the United States and internationally, Carini spent the summer of 2012 as the Artist in Residence for Alexander Salazar Fine Art.

Michael Carini’s creative visions will play with your senses and illuminate the human condition as he delves into the uncensored depths of his mind and invites you to catch a glimpse of the other side. It is a journey through his darkest dreams and highest hopes, all displayed before you in weaving blasts of light, color, and energy that find themselves trapped within a space that is seemingly boundless. The visions shared are done through a broad and deeply rooted filter of art history, philosophy, and literature as Carini rhythmically dances and makes music on the canvas through what he describes as a poetically alchemical process based upon the principals of equivalent exchange. It is the artist’s hope that you will completely lose yourself within these labyrinthine experiences, only to discover a new sense of self and emerge reborn.

I heard about Micheal's art from a friend involved the art community in California. I must say that I was not disappointed! There must be a deeper story to this artist....It shows in his work. There is passion and excitement and well as SOUL! Wonderful!

Where can I find more of his work? It is a really interesting style that makes you feel part of it. Rebeccause is quite beautiful.

As an arts professional and galleriest for many years, the paintings of Michael Carini are unlike anything I've ever seen before. They are terrestrial by nature and emotionally grabbing to appoint of rapture into another reality; scores over the moon on the positive side of the pleasure principle. I completely agree with Rose’s astute comment posted March 6th; I could not have said it better. It such a pleasure to work with this wonderful artist, someday the his genius will be renown.

As a scenic artist and a sculptor with little formal training, I am astounded with Mr Carini's blend of formal training and knowledge with human qualities and unique visions. He expresses his visions cleanly and carefully, yet with a spontaneous quality also. I have followed him on FB and his other sites for nearly a year and find delight in his concepts and painted solutions both. His use of color is so powerful, varied, and perfect painting after painting. My being fond of bas relief, the layers and depths suggested in his work are wonderful to contemplate, to dream and drift through. His appreciation of his process by openly sharing also his words and palettes in a studio protected by two peaceful cats show a human being well worth being aware of, known, and collected. His positive reputation can only grow in the future.

Looks like a more attractive version of Jackson Pollock to me.
