Matt Momchilov graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with High Distinction from the California College of the Arts. He has been featured in solo shows in NY, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Taking the traditions of fan art as a place of departure, Momchilov adopts and re-imagines the varied techniques fans use to demonstrate devotion. From painting and sculpture to airbrushing and obsessive bedazzling, the work serves up a tender critique of kitsch fandom and a meditation on the function of role models.
