Austin Parkhill earned a B.F.A from Colorado State University. He explains his work by saying, “My paintings are concerned with genuine character. Beginning with snapshot portraits, I create works of individuals in a moment of honest expression. These honest moments are readily captured in candid digital photographs, and my attraction to such has led me to create works that give life to this expression. I often paint these images at a bold scale, and in hyperrealistic detail to bring forth an energetic and lasting presence. The fleeting moment becomes a persevering statement. My intention is that no image is posed, and that the final image is an elusive, sincere expression.”
