Tessa Houghton studied fine art at Liverpool John Moores University.
After completing her degree she moved back to Lancashire for a short time and in 2000 she moved to Barcelona, where she began painting serene landscapes of ocean views.
These landscapes are somewhat abstract but still chiefly focused on depicting nature. Her inspiration comes from her surroundings of the Catalonian coast, the Pyrenees and conversely the moorlands of northern England.
Houghton uses oil paint, acrylics and other mediums in a variety of methods so that intense layers of texture contrast with areas of smooth subtlety. Light and depth are key components, so that color and form are simplified to capture the true essence of the subject matter.
Her work has been exhibited across Britain and in Barcelona.
