Federico Carbajal was born in Mexico in 1978. He received a BA in architecture from Universidad Iberoamericana Leon and an MA in architecture at the Université de Montreal.
He first encountered sculpture in New York where he found work as Holton Rower’s assistant in 2000. Carbajal too became a sculptor, and since 2002 has worked for various architecture firms.
In 2010 he enrolled in an independent studies programme offered by Visual Arts Centre in Montreal under the tutelage of the artist Helga Schleeh.
His MA thesis was placed second for a Steel Structures Education Foundation Scholarship and a later project won him the 2010 Emerging Sculptors Exhibition’s Artcast prize.
His work has been exhibited in Mexico and in Canada.
