About David

David Peterson was born in 1979 in Grand Rapids and received his BFA from Center for Creative Studies, Detroit, in 2001.

He is inspired by product design, graphic design, and architecture. ‘If I see an amazing new sneaker that someone is wearing, a design for an ad in a magazine, or an incredible new building, I immediately start figuring out how I can make a work out of this inspiration,’ he says.

During his art process, he feels as if he is analyzes the perceptual elements of his observation, deconstructing its perceptual elements and then reconstructing these elements in a new composition. This calls upon very basic principles and elements of design and leads to a precise art object which he believes to exist perfectly with its own system of rules.

His work has been exhibited in New York.

Thank you for your comments on my work. It was wonderful to hear such a broad spectrum of criticism, both positive and negative. I will keep these ideas in mind as I create new artwork.

The wood is great, the colors are odd. The other pieces I saw were repeats. I don't see any type of expression or concept expressed. As a graphic design, i was not impressed they lacked a wow factor

object/painting art/product surface/container.... Thank you, David - I really enjoy the juxtapositions your work brings to mind.

Colorful, clever and creative, yet notably intelligent work. The ability to see and re-imagine objects (from semi trucks to cuff links and socks of all things) into fields of color, shape and texture is to be commended. I think Ellsworth Kelly and Richard Diebenkorn would appreciate these artistic creations and enjoy a sit-down afternoon with the artist. Working my way through the offerings on the artist's website was a trip and a half. Another commendable trait is the artist's ability to see the varying grain of wood in the same light as painted striations and contrasting fields of color. Again, superior work.

Cubist commercial design is how I would characterize this work. Not my cup of tea, but not entirely unpleasant either.

I enjoyed the 'puzzles' section of your website. Thanks for sharing.

Good luck to David and his beliefs I'm afraid it's lost on me. Better than a blank wall - just!
