About Jaybo

Jaybo is a self-taught artist originally from southern France. He ran away from his family home as a child, eventually settling in Berlin-Kreuzberg in the early 1980s.

He regards himself as ‘constantly in the picture’ of his work, which is made up of elements of pop art, graffiti, street art, Dadaism and Surrealism. Other identifiable influences include Francis Bacon and Walt Disney—as in the Mickey Mouse hands projected onto Berlin Cathedral. Jabyo himself describes these stylistic references as ‘visual reflexes.’

In the 1990s he founded the street wear label Irie Daily and a cultural magazine called Style, inspired by and in turn influencing Berlin youth culture. Even today, urban subculture is the driving force behind his artistic activities.

His work has been exhibited across Europe.

"I quite like the Francis Bacon influence, too. Nice mix of abstract and realism. Second the color comment on 'Snow Squares'"

"Eye witness for destruction of thoughts."

"That's wicked awesome!!"

"These pieces seem to be the product of a picasso inspiration, but I see alot of Dali in them too. But Ultimately it's just jaybo, a guy from germany. On one hand I would find it flattering to have my art to picasso' or dali' but honestly lets give the guy some credit. Very Nice Work Jaybo."

"I like this, but I like collage's and collage type painting. For me art (whatever form) has to tell a story and tickle my imagination and/or feelings. These works do that to me. Makes me curious what is going on? and what are the connections between the different parts of the paintings. Good stuff."

"The first one draws me in to it. The second one pushes me away. Needless to say, I prefer the first. interesting"

"I think these are great! There is some sense of Picasso here but not in that same flat cubist look, I think theres much more of interest going on. I see it more like visual notes for an artist's study."

"I Love this type of art style. It's got a cool graphic thing to it. It doesn't really make me think of picasso. Heck, I don't even like Picasso's art, but this stuff is what i like. Love the layout and colors of 'Snow Squares'"
