About Nick

Nick Patten was born in 1953 in Troy, New York. He received a BFA from College of Saint Rose, Albany in 1977.

Settling on a composition for one of his room interior paintings is a progressive process. Using an array of photographs for reference, he starts by isolating what he finds the most interesting and necessary elements. Then he combines these in a compositional sketch, often adding additional features from his imagination.

Close attention to brushstroke helps him to achieve the primary focus on light and dark in all his paintings. By working from photographs with the aim of creating credible images, Patten strives to play up the theatrical in everyday scenes. Content is more important to him than form and indeed reflecting any of the strictly photographic qualities of his reference material.

His work has been exhibited across the east of the United States, and collected nationwide and internationally.

"How can I purchase one of his paintings? Where can I find prices for his works?Kat"

"My husband and I first saw Nick Patten's work in a show at the Harrison Gallery in Williamstown, MA in approximately 2002. We both love his work. We'd very much like to buy one of his works. Unfortunately, I think many of the paintings we liked best have been sold. Not a surprise I suppose. "

"OMG you did a better job then the camera would have :D i like"

"Such lovely paintings Nick and all created on our Ampersand painting panels!"

"I have an eye/ear for many talents. And my sole streams toward the best of the great. THESE paintings grab me. I am drawn to (the) windows. They seem a symbol of curiosity. I have to say that I want to live in these paintings. Don't you feel it? I want a big mug of black coffee and to sit at the table in silence while my mind travels through the unknowables of life. I love the lower painting just as well. I can hear the floor squeak underfoot."

"sweet, soft and dramaticvery nice"
