About Ryan

Ryan Browning was born in Houston, Texas. He has an MFA from Mount Royal School of Art in Maryland and a BA in art history and curatorial studies from Brigham Young University.

Having a background in computing, Browning regards the act of painting as a process of the adding and subtracting of elements in the space of a canvas over a period of time.

Much of his creative practice stems from interactions with virtual space in digital environments. ‘I’ve thought of the process of painting as being interactive, making decisions and actions as if I’m playing the medium and its suggested terrain,’ he explains.

His work has been exhibited across the United States and he has been awarded several awards, including most recently an artist residency from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2011.

"'Big Fall' can be appreciated on many levels. In the foreground of the pink and green geometric design there appears to be a head, arms and a wing. Made me think of lucifer cast down to the earth from the stormy, angry sky above. Spent almost an hour taking in the beauty and wonder of this painting. Greatly looking forward in seeing more of the artist's work."
